Well. After 2 months of relaxing in the midwestern autumn and winter, I'm off to the next thing. The plan is to work on a few farms in Tennessee through WWOOF: basically, partial-day work-exchange for room & board, on organic farms. Looking through the directory, there are a lot of choices, ranging from an all-Jewish summer fellowship, to an inner-city farm in Miami that cautions you'll be putting your life at risk to WWOOF there, to intentional communities, to farms that are off-the-grid...and so on.

According to weather.com, Nashville will not be "warm," as hoped. But it will be a tad warmer than Wisconsin. Still, this will be a packing challenge!--I've never packed to travel anywhere cold before [except early-November Japan]. brr. And with that...I'm off to go pack.

We had a blizzard this past week!! A snow emergency got declared. 18" of snow, and temperatures hovering between +5 F to -15 F (not counting wind chill). It sounds more dramatic & apt in Celsius--a "high" yesterday of -8 C, low of -18 C. Now it is all the way up to -4 C. :-) [same-same, but different.]
Even the university canceled its classes, giving time for thousands of students to try for the largest snowball fight record.

The cold and deep snow are stunning. I missed it a lot last year, in Hong Kong, when this was all the snow there was to see...

-Outside the regal Peninsula Hotel:

-At Elements mall this year [c/o HK Magazine publicity]:

-Or how about the montage at TMT plaza? Because after all, what really says Christmas + New Years + Winter + 'the West,' like Vegas & Liberty?--

But real snow is much, much better.

p.s. Happy Hannukah!
